First time in nearly 20 years, US reports monkeypox case in Texas resident

A rare case of monkeypox was detected in a US resident who had recently travelled from Nigeria, making it the first recorded case of the viral infection in the country since 2003.

For the primary time in nearly 20 years , a rare case of human monkeypox was detected in Texas, US, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Friday, Live Science reported. The patient may be a US resident who had returned from Nigeria a few of days ago.
The person is currently hospitalized in isolation in Dallas. The CDC is functioning with the airline and state and native health agencies to contact airline passengers et al. who may are in touch with the patient during two flights: Lagos, Nigeria, to Atlanta on July 8, with arrival on July 9; and Atlanta to Dallas on July 9.
Government officials said the lone case of monkeypox isn't any cause for alarm and poses no threat to the general public.
The illness, caused by the monkeypox virus, has not been detected within the US since a 2003 outbreak, which involved 47 people. That outbreak was traced to pet prairie dogs within the Midwest that harboured the virus.
